Strategic Plan Development
The Opportunity: Pittsburgh Public Schools serves approximately 25,000 students in kindergarten through grade 12 in 54 schools. The student population is 53% African American, 33% White, and 14% Other, speaking 46 languages representing 57 countries. Following the appointment of a new superintendent, GSG was engaged to support district leadership in developing a strategic plan.
Our Services: GSG supported the strategic planning process through design and implementation of an extensive, iterative community engagement process including forums, focus groups, and surveys. Specific strategic planning consultation included:
Analyzed data on district performance and developed presentations for the board and community
Reviewed and integrated recommendations from a district operational review by the Council of Great City Schools
Facilitated a strategy design session of more than100 district leaders to develop the key elements of a future strategic direction
Developed a process for testing the strategic direction among all stakeholders, including training district staff as session facilitators, and reviewing and categorizing all input
Trained and supported staff teams to develop detailed action plans for a set of priority strategic initiatives
Developed a monitoring process for district leadership to guide and support implementation.
