Marietta City Schools is an innovative leader in education reform, as one of the first charter systems in Georgia. The Georgia Department of Education selected MCS as one of two districts in the state to design innovative employee performance management approaches using federal Race to the Top funds.
GSG was selected to support this effort by providing the following services:
Assessed the current processes for employee goal-setting and performance review
Created a business alignment approach to link the strategic plan goals, department goals, and employee goals
Facilitated a retreat with senior leadership to prioritize and align work
Analyzed all non-instructional position descriptions through employee questionnaires and interviews; job descriptions were then redesigned to align with current and future needs, and updated in a common format
Developed a tiered set of district competencies for personnel at all levels
Designed a new employee goal setting, coaching, and performance review process for non-instructional staff
Trained supervisors and non-instructional employees in the new model
Assessed implementation of the new model through employee surveys and focus groups, and recommended process improvements
Created handbooks with instructions and tools to support the employee performance management process.
The district utilized an aligned goal-setting and performance management process to ensure non-instructional staff were engaged in the district work and committed to continuous improvement.
